Reduced Relatives

Reduced relatives are permitted only in cases of subject-extraction. Past participial reduced relatives are only permitted on passive clauses. See ((248)-(255)).
(247)0(247
(248)
the toy [i [C [ i playing the banjo]]]   (248)0(248
(249)
*the instrument [i [C [ Amis playing i ]]]   (249)0(249
(250)
*the day [w [C [ Amis playing the banjo]]]   (250)0(250
(251)
the apple [i [C [ i eaten by Dafna]]]   (251)0(251
(252)
*the child [i [C [ the apple eaten by i ]]]   (252)0(252
(253)
*the day [w [C [ Amis eaten the apple]]]   (253)0(253
(254)
*the apple [i [C [ Dafna eaten i ]]]   (254)0(254
(255)
*the child [i [C [ i eaten the apple ]]]

These restrictions are built into the <mode> specifications of S.t. So non-passive cases of subject extraction have the following feature equation:
Sr.t:mode ind/ger/inf Passive cases of subject extraction have the following feature equation:
Sr.t:mode ind/ger/ppart/inf Finally, all cases of non-subject extraction have the following feature equation:
Sr.t:mode ind/inf
